FCC Building Move Plan – Call for Assistance

CLEANING

January 20 and 21 will be cleaning of the FCC facility.  We will commence at the location 6721 Raspberry Road at 0900 on Saturday and Sunday and work until we are tired!

Things we need:

  • Cleaning supplies of all sorts for bathrooms, carpeted floors, sheetrock walls, kitchen, refrigerator, electric stove.
  • Paper towels, toilet paper, large garbage bags
  • Cleaning implements like vacuum cleaners (bring filters), mops, sponges, buckets, brooms, etc.
  • Ice melt

Consider donating any of these supplies to the new facility.  We don’t have garbage service yet, so please haul off some trash when you leave.  Also, bring your own lunch/snacks/drinks.

MOVING

January 27 and 28 will be the big moving days.  We plan on having teams both at Rowan packing up and Raspberry unloading, along with the freight haulers in between.  Team captains will be set up to guide your efforts so it will be an efficient and fun (if not sweaty!) day.  We have a plan for each of the rooms and you will get to see the new site start to unfold.

Talk in or information is best suited by using the 146.94 KL7AA repeater and/or 146.52 simplex, and calling KL7AA for cleaning/moving teams.

Lunch will be provided once we get a head count.  Of course, donations will be accepted.

Yes, we will be working on some evenings and even during the days between as well. Please call the club phone at 345-0719 and leave a message, someone will return your call.

WE NEED A NAME

We need a new name for the facility. It is to be repurposed as an Emergency Operating Center per our lease agreement.  This includes a strong training presence, so Radio Science will be a major pillar of our mission.  Do you have any ideas for a good name?  Please bring them to the February 2nd general club meeting, our last one at the APU campus.  We will make the choice shortly thereafter.  By the way, this general meeting will have a couple presentations on the new facility as well as fundraising topics.

FUNDRAISER

There will also be a special fundraising event at the February 2nd meeting.  An auction will be held for an Alaska Trapper Hat.

This brand-new Trapper Hat was hand-sewn especially to benefit AARC (valued at $250). The size is large. It sports rich dark beaver fur, a deep brown garment leather shell, quilted lining, with wool yarn ties.  It is cut from an old Alaskan village pattern that rolls the fur around the leather shell edges for a stunning look and softer feel.

Come to the next membership meeting to check it out and get updated on all the exciting things happening with the club.  Support AARC and have fun by bidding on this beaver hat.  Maybe YOU will walk away with a handsome Alaskan Trapper Hat just in time for the 2018 Fur Rondy!

The general membership meeting and auction will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 7:00 PM, in the Carr -Gottstein Hall at Alaska Pacific University, 4225 University Drive, Anchorage.
