We Did It! FCC Building Here We Come!

We did it!  After a long year of negotiations, research, meetings, coordination, and testing of patience, we successfully entered into a lease with the State of Alaska for the former FCC Monitoring Station located at 6721 Raspberry Road effective 1/17/2018.

We now have keys and have already moved a small amount of equipment into the facility during last night’s Working Wednesday.  The building will comfortably house our radio activities, store our heavy rolling stock, allow for club meetings, do classroom training, do VE testing, and much, much more.  There are two full bathrooms with showers, a full kitchen, technical area, basement storage, 4 large garage bays, a pad for an internal backup generator, and one tower in place.

So now the real work begins with cleaning, moving, configuring,  and most of all, moving into the place in an organized manner.  We’ve got to get the alarm system monitored, get the utilities switched over to us, figure out an access policy, survey the tower that’s there and the antennas that are in place, and much, much more.  There is plenty of work to be done.

The Building Committee is putting together a moving plan which will be communicated in very short order.  Oh yes, and, we need to come up with a name for the place.  I am personally fond of “KL7AA Radio Science and Operations Center (RSOC)”!  What do you think?

I hope that you are as excited as we are about our move!  This facility opens many, many doors for us and gives us a chance to get our equipment organized, installed in a way that makes sense, and to be a real showcase.

More to follow in the days to come.
