Mr. Roland (Rol) Anders, K3RA, will be our guest speaker at the upcoming Anchorage ARC general membership meeting on December 1, 2022, at 7 PM Alaska Time.
Rol is a Volunteer Examiner (VE) with the Anchorage ARC VEC, but more importantly, he is our representative to and the Chairman of the National Conference of Volunteer Examiner Coordinators (NCVEC) Question Pool Committee (QPC). What are these two groups?
The NCVEC is an association of the 14 VEC (Anchorage ARC VEC is 1 of the 14) which was formed to help coordinate the actions of the various independent VECs, and to formalize the management of the amateur radio examination question pools. The NCVEC also facilitates discussion between the FCC and its members.
The QPC is an important part of the NCVEC. There are currently 5 members, including Rol as its Chairman. The question pools are developed and maintained by the NCVEC QPC by FCC instruction and Part 97 Rules & Regulation; Sec. 92.523 Question pools which states: “All VECs must cooperate in maintaining one question pool for each written examination element. Each question pool must contain at least 10 times the number of questions required for a single examination. Each question pool must be published and made available to the public prior to its use for making a question set (an examination). The QPC does a lot of work!
Rol will help “demystify” the QPC and the question pool development process.
In addition to the important work Rol does as the Chairman of the QPC, he also puts on numerous amateur radio license exam prep courses. I’m certain Rol will share with us some of his other activities as well related to amateur radio.
