Youth Summer Radio Camp Offered at RSOC
The Anchorage Amateur Radio Club (AARC) is holding a 5-day summer camp targeting youth’s entering grades 7-12. There will be offerings for a 4-hour morning session (8 AM to 12 PM) or a 4-hour afternoon session (1 PM – 5 PM). The camp dates are August 12 through August 16. There is a limit of 12 camper slots per session.
The camp will be held at the Radio Science and Operations Center (RSOC) and will feature: Basic electronics, radio theory and operation, safety, basic emergency communications, basic satellite communications, number systems, computer components, interfacing computers with communications equipment, repeaters, antennas, connectors, cables, ropes, generators, cable locating, and radio direction finding. We will even have a segment on drones and how they can be used in amateur radio.
Bonus: Camp attendees are invited to participate in a nationwide radio operating event (radio contest) on Saturday, August 17.
No prior ham radio operating experience or equipment is required.
An amateur radio license is not required for participants in this class.
